Spotlight on Mo Pitney
Troupe alumnus and country music artist Mo Pitney, since his signing with Curb Records in 2014, when he was 21, has released two studio albums and dozens of singles since his move with his family to Nashville from Cherry Valley, Illinois, near Rockford, when he was about 17.
He turned 30 on March 24, 2023 – an occasion that provided inspiration for one of his most recent songs.
Mo, his brother, Blake, and his sister, Holly, were a vital part of the traveling MWAH! Performing Arts Troupe for several years, including a tour of schools in the Nashville area in 2008.
Dan Pitney, Mo’s father, on June 7, 2023, recalled his family’s first meetings with the troupe at a bluegrass festival in west-suburban Naperville, then a few days later at the Haven Middle School in north-suburban Evanston, Illinois.
On August 27, 2012, Mo returned to the troupe as a special guest artist at the John Deere Middle School in Moline, Illinois.
Mo’s latest single, ‘Jordan,’ is a collaboration of Mo with Darin and Brooke Aldridge, Ricky Skaggs, and Mark Fain. This release, by Billy Blue Records, has been narrowed to the first round ballot for the 2023 GMA (Gospel Music Association) Dove Awards as Recorded Song of the Year in the category that includes both gospel and country music.
Since 1969, the GMA Dove Awards has honored outstanding achievements and excellence in Christian and Gospel Music. The most recent selection as Artist of the Year was CeCe Winans, the first Black female artist to win.
