Jason Preston’s On-Court Success a Testament to Hard Work, Perseverance

Jason Preston is no stranger to regular visitors of MWAH!’s Web site.  MWAH! referenced Jason in a Dec. 6, 2020 that described his unlikely, winding road to college basketball.  For those who didn’t see it in December, click the button.

Jason’s team, the #13 seed in its first-round bracket of the NCAA national tournament, defeated Virginia, the #4 seed and the defending National Champion, on Saturday, March 20.

During the upset on March 20, Jason scored 11 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and dished out eight assists, but amazingly, he took just seven shots.

As Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports put it in a March 20, 2021 article, “Jason happily played pick-and-roll distributor, patient enabler, and conscientious deflector of attention.”

Jason’s coach, Jeff Boals, described him as “the heart and soul of our team.  The world saw tonight who he is and what he’s able to do. He’s a great player and a better person. Just really proud of him.”

In high school Jason was a 6-foot bench warmer who weighed just 140 pounds and was under-recruited and overlooked – an introvert reeling from the death of his mother, Judith, to lung cancer before his junior year.

When asked about his mother during a postgame national television interview on March 20, Jason began to tear up before replying, “I hope she’s proud.”
