COVID’s Effects on High Schoolers

Reflections from Normal West HS Students

Students in high schools across the country have come to terms with altered routines and limited social contact during much of the COVID-19 pandemic.  As the COVID-19 situation improves across the United States, schools and students are slowly returning to in-person learning, sports, and a sense of normalcy.

MWAH! invites you to view the video to learn more about how students have survived—and thrived—in the era of COVID-19.

Normal West High School student Hope Knoerle recently surveyed students at her high school for their thoughts on the coronavirus’ effects on their lives.  Her video provides a compelling, firsthand account of the challenges that students at her central Illinois school have experienced during the past 11 months.  Hope, a junior, interviewed juniors and seniors about COVID’s effects on their school experience; its effects on their lives outside of school; changes to milestone events, including prom and graduation; students’ concerns about COVID’s effects on their futures; and their advice to their peers, among other subjects.
