Writing His Own Story!
Dillon Helbig has proven even at the age of 8, that creativity, combined with hustle, can lead to success!
He spent more than four days writing the fictional novel of how he was decorating his Christmas when it exploded, magically transporting him back to the year 1621 – a reference to when the Thanksgiving holiday was first celebrated in the United States.
He had consulted with his mom in fact-checking that detail.
He titled his book ‘The Adventures of Dillon Helbig’s Crismis’ and named the author as ‘Dillon Helbig His Self.’
After he finished his book, he and his grandmother had stopped by the Ada Community Library in his home town of Boise, Idaho.
Then, without his grandmother or anyone else knowing, he snuck the only copy of his 81-page handwritten Christmas story onto a shelf of other children’s books.
As they say, the rest is history.
Dillon later told a local television station, ‘there was a lot of librarians that I had to sneak past’ and that he ‘covered the back of the book with my body and just snuck it into a shelf with other books.’
Dillon added, “I always be sneaky, like how I get chocolate.’
The library manager, Alex Hartman, said that Dillon’s book definitely fit all the criteria that we would look for in our children’s collection.
A sequel? Absolutely!
But this time Dillon said it will be based on ‘actual events.’
He already has a title – ‘The Jacket-Eating Closet.’
Whether it’s chocolate or his own publishing company, this 8-year-old entrepreneur is willing to take whatever risks are necessary to succeed!
And the Ada Community Library’s wait list for Dillon’s first book continues to grow.
